Fuzzy Border Distance Transforms and Their Use in 2D Skeletonization

چکیده
Segmentation is always a difficult task in image analysis. In this paper, we propose a solution to computing distance transforms in images with fuzzy object borders. The difference from a standard distance transform is in the initialisation, which takes the fuzziness of the border into account. As an example of its usefulness, the new fuzzy border distance transform is used in skeletonization.

Skeletonization and Distance Transforms of 3D Volumes Using Graphics Hardware
We propose a fast method for computing distance transforms and skeletons of 3D objects using programmable Graphics Processing Units (GPUs). We use an efficient method, called distance splatting, to compute the distance transform, a one-point feature transform, and 3D skeletons. We efficiently implement 3D splatting on GPUs using 2D textures and a hierarchical bi-level acceleration scheme. We sh...
متن کاملOn Reversible Skeletonization Using Anchor-Points from Distance Transforms
In many applications thinning of objects is of great interest. We here present a skeletonization algorithm that is based on the idea of iteratively thinning the distance transform of an object layer by layer until either an anchor-point is reached or the connectivity breaks. Our algorithm is general in the sense that any metric and any connectivity can be used. Also, it is based on ideas that a...
متن کاملCentres of maximal balls extracted from a fuzzy distance transform
During the last 10 years or so, there has been a large movement within the field of computerised image analysis to avoid crisp segmentation into interesting and non-interesting regions and instead using a fuzzy approach, where points are assigned membership values related to the degree of belongingness to the structure of interests. The segmented fuzzy object is used in the subsequent analysis....
متن کاملFuzzy Skeletonization Improves the Performance of Characterizing Trabecular Bone Micro-architecture
Skeletonization provides a compact, yet effective representation of an object. Despite limited resolution, most medical imaging applications till date use binary skeletonization which is always associated with thresholding related data loss. A recently-developed fuzzy skeletonization algorithm directly operates on fuzzy objects in the presence of partially volumed voxels and alleviates this dat...
متن کاملSkeletonization of Three-Dimensional Object Using Generalized Potential Field
ÐThe medial axis transform (MAT) is a skeletal representation of an object which has been shown to be useful in interrogation, animation, finite element mesh generation, path planning, and feature recognition. In this paper, the potential-based skeletonization approach for 2D MAT [1], which identifies object skeleton as potential valleys using a Newtonian potential model in place of the distanc...
